NAME: Jana Alma
HOMETOWN: Issaquah, WA, USA
SCHOOL: Everett Community College, Everett, WA
INTERNSHIP PERIOD: Spring 2005
ABOUT: My interest in photography started in childhood, but it was a circuitous path that led me to want to work as a photographer. I graduated cum laude from the University of Washington where I majored in Psychology and minored in Anthropology. While attending the UW, I studied Animal Behavior Psychology, as well as Human Psychology. During my time at the UW, I conducted research on wolves and cougar. In my Anthropology classes I focused primarily on American Indian Studies, including Native American Art and Dance. My degree allowed me to combine my passion for the outdoors, my fascination with animals, and my interest in indigenous peoples. I am currently studying Photography at Everett Community College.
I have explored extensively in the Western United States and Canada, and also lived for a short time in South Korea. Many of the places that I visit, or wish to visit, attain mythic proportions in my mind. I am at times overwhelmed with the beauty that I see around me, even in my everyday world. Conveying some of these feelings through my photography is one of my primary goals. I use 35mm, digital, and large format pinhole for my images.
