The Yanamamö women had a very distinctive adornment from the men. They pierced the skin between the nostrils and punctured the skin on both sides of the lips and right below the lower lip. Then they carved small branches from a tree so that the bark was off of it. They insert these small sticks during times of ceremony. This is a decoration that the men do not use.
